- Supportive living services

Rydal Court is a 11 bedded supportive living accommodation establishment for adults between the ages of 18 & 65 who suffer from mental health problems &/or learning disabilities, it offers a safe, supportive & structured environment where the individual needs of the client are met & their own independence is encouraged.

Rydal Court accommodation is partially funded by the "Supporting People scheme”; here client's are able to reside in independent units under a short-term tenancy agreement, they will be required to apply for housing benefit & may have to provide a nominal top-up contribution, extra services other than housing related issues will require to be further funded.

Each client at Rydal Court will be assessed & supported depending on their own capabilities and merits, appropriate stimulation will be offered to prevent deterioration and to improve & sustain a high quality of life for each person, and this helps to enhance dignity & encourages clients to achieve their maximum potential.

Our support is provided through a client centred planning approach which is reviewed regularly as the client's needs change & their goals are met.

Each client living at Rydal Court will receive a minimum of 14hrs support each week, helping with various day-to-day tasks depending on their needs.

At Rydal Court the emphasis is placed upon recreational, educational, development and leisure activities which are provided via aplanned activity programmes & the individual client support plans.

Rydal Court is unable to cater for those who have a physical disability or those who fall outside of the age category.

- Staffing @ Rydal Court

Rydal Court is managed by Joanne Egan who has over 12 years experience of working within the acute statutory mental health services in Torbay, she also holds the Registered Managers Award & NVQ 4 in Health & Social Care.

Working along side the manager at Rydal Court the staffing team consists of support workers who are all undergoing a continuous programme of training and development. A manager from within the Riviera Care Group is also available at Rydal Court outside of the normal support worker shifts via a 24hr on-call system should she be needed.

The support workers are available to the clients between 8am & 6pm.

- What is Rydal Court Like?

Rydal Court is a large detached & spacious supportive living accommodation close to the Torquay town centre & is within easy walking distance of the harbour & local amenities.

Rydal Court offers 5 one bed roomed flats, & 6 studio flats, all of which have their own kitchen & en-suite bathroom, the flats are all tastefully furnished & decorated, clients are encouraged to bring their own furnishings if they wish too.

Rydal Court has large communal lounge & reception areas which provide a comfortable & pleasant environment in which to socialise with other clients living in the supportive accommodation, the lounge area is provided with a television & music system for the clients to use.

Rydal Court also benefits from the use of the facilities available at the Riviera Court residential care home recreational facilities where they have a pool table & table-tennis table, an indoor heated swimming pool & gymnasium; these facilities are supervised.

Rydal Court has a no-smoking policy due to the focus on promoting health within their clients & staff.

- Education, activities & volunteering @ Rydal Court

Rydal Court offers a full range of varied educational & recreational activities both within the supportive accommodation & out in the local community, these are provided via Riviera Court who organise a full activity plan, clients are actively involved in deciding upon these activities, funding for certain activities are made available through educational establishments & various government initiatives.

Volunteering is encouraged at Rydal Court, this helps bring a vital presence from the local community into the supportive accommodation, & helps client's to re-integrate back into their community; these volunteers become involved with the clients & can help with their daily activities.

To ensure Rydal Court is being beneficial to all participants, both the recipients & providers of the support, we have developed a statement of purpose covering the supportive accommodations aims & objectives, we also use in-house systems to monitor the quality of care within the accommodation, & this is addressed through regular staff business meetings, appraisals & supervision.
